When I first started working as a clinical psychologist in allergy, I was surprised by how much guilt was popping up for allergy parents.

Whilst evidence shows us there are large correlations between feelings of guilt and having a child with allergies, research into effective ways to support this is lacking.

I have worked with hundreds of families, using existing therapy for guilt and refining this to make it relevant to the specific guilt that allergy families feel.

Hi I'm Francesca!

A chartered clinical psychologist, with over 14 years experience working in the NHS at some of the U.K’s leading children’s hospitals.

I am hugely passionate about supporting children and families with allergies, having previously led the psychology team at the Children’s Allergy Service at the Evelina Hospital, which is one of the largest allergy services in Europe.

I am one of only a handful of clinical psychologists specialising in allergy in the U.K. and I am dedicated to raising awareness of the psychological impact of living with allergies and shine a spotlight on the subsequent need for more support, which let’s be honest, is currently no where near enough.

It’s my mission to not only support as many families living with allergies as possible, but also keep fighting for improved access to specialist psychological support for those with allergies. I’m also proud to be a specialist advisor for the Sadie Bristow foundation, which is a charity dedicated to increasing knowledge and education of allergies.

Dr Francesca Sawer

Having worked across many areas of paediatrics, child development and children’s mental health services I bring a unique blend of knowledge and experience in supporting all aspects of psychological well-being in children and families, but with a specific focus on the challenges that living with allergies brings.

Traditional therapy may come from the perspective of challenging your fears and showing you that you are not in danger, whereas my approach is adapted to actually take into account you are living with the reality of allergies and is therefore much more individual focused and working towards tolerating a Safe Enough position, which allows you to be alert to possible risks but not defined by them.

Over on Instagram I give regular insights of my work and small tips which I hope will help you on your journey of living happily and confidently with allergies.
